Body BEFORE & AFTER Patient 181: Breast Reduction with Lift and Lateral Chest Liposuction
*Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your results may vary.

Before & After
A 46-year-old female patient sought relief from the physical discomfort associated with larger breasts, along with a more youthful, lifted breast shape. After a consultation with Dr. Crantford at Crantford Costa Plastic Surgery in Charleston, South Carolina, she underwent breast reduction and lift with lateral chest liposuction. The procedure reduced excess breast tissue, reshaped and elevated the breasts, and included liposuction of the lateral chest to enhance upper body contour and create a smoother transition between the breasts and surrounding areas. Photos are shown at 6 weeks post-op.
Breast reduction is one of the few plastic surgery procedures that addresses both aesthetic goals and physical symptoms, including neck, shoulder, and back discomfort caused by excess breast weight. Adding lateral chest liposuction, as Dr. Crantford did in this case, refines the area just beside the breast so the reduction and lift produce a cohesive, well-proportioned upper body contour rather than treating the breasts in isolation. At 6 weeks post-op, this patient shows a lifted, more proportionate breast shape with improved comfort and a smoother chest silhouette overall.
Does breast reduction relieve physical symptoms, not just change appearance?
Yes. Many patients pursue breast reduction primarily for relief from neck, shoulder, and back pain, as well as bra strap grooving and skin irritation caused by excess breast weight. The aesthetic reshaping and lift are often accompanied by a noticeable improvement in daily comfort.
Why combine breast reduction with lateral chest liposuction?
Excess fullness along the side of the chest can persist even after the breast tissue itself is reduced, creating an uneven transition between the breast and underarm area. Treating the lateral chest at the same time creates a smoother, more proportionate result.
What is recovery like after a breast reduction with lift?
Most patients take about 1 to 2 weeks off work, with normal activity restrictions in place for roughly 6 weeks. Swelling and firmness improve steadily over this period, and many patients report relief from pre-surgery discomfort almost immediately.
