What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure for your skin. It uses tiny sterilized needles to create micro-punctures in the skin to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process and boost collagen and elastin production. The treatment can address a variety of skin concerns, including enlarged pores, lines and wrinkles, loose skin, acne scars, uneven skin tone and texture, and stretch marks, and will leave you with smoother and younger-looking skin.
How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling works by using thin needles to make tiny punctures in the skin. This kickstarts the skin’s healing process and increases the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins that provide structure and flexibility to the skin. By replacing the old skin with collagen-rich skin, the treatment can address a number of skin issues and give you the younger, firmer, and more radiant skin you desire.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Microneedling?
Ideal candidates for microneedling are generally healthy individuals who are looking for a minimally invasive option. We also recommend you be a nonsmoker, have realistic expectations, and be struggling with fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, and more.
Preparing for Microneedling Treatment
Before your microneedling treatment, you will want to avoid certain medications, as well as retinoids and exfoliants, for at least a week ahead of time. You will also need to stay away from excess sun exposure, tanning beds, and hair removal treatments. On the day of your treatment, you can use a gentle cleanser.
What to Expect During Microneedling Treatment
To start your microneedling treatment, we will begin by cleaning your skin and applying a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. Next, your provider will pass the microneedling handpiece slowly across your skin. At most, you will feel a slight warmth or a scratching sensation. How long your treatment lasts will depend on the size of the treatment area. It can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.
Microneedling Results
After your microneedling treatment, you will likely see some redness and skin irritation, but those side effects will subside within a few days. Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so you will want to regularly apply sunscreen. On top of that, we recommend avoiding excess sun exposure for at least a week. You’ll also want to avoid wearing makeup until your skin fully heals.
You may start to see results within a week, but it can take several months before you see the full improvements. Some patients require multiple treatment sessions to achieve optimal results, and regular yearly retreatment will be necessary to maintain your results.
