Breast BEFORE & AFTER Patient 151: Breast Implant Exchange
*Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your results may vary.

Before & After
A 63-year-old female patient underwent a bilateral breast implant exchange with a right-sided capsulectomy with Dr. Crantford in Charleston, South Carolina. The procedure included the removal of both existing implants, with complete excision of the capsule on the right breast. New Motiva 285 cc implants were placed bilaterally. Photos are shown at 8 weeks post-op.
What is a breast implant exchange?
A breast implant exchange involves removing existing implants and replacing them with new ones. It may be performed to address concerns such as capsular contracture, implant aging, changes in size preference, or to transition to a newer implant technology.
What is a capsulectomy and why is it performed?
A capsulectomy is the surgical removal of the scar tissue capsule that naturally forms around a breast implant. It is performed when the capsule has hardened, thickened, or become a source of discomfort — a condition known as capsular contracture. In some cases, only one side requires capsule removal, as was the case in this procedure.
How long after a breast implant exchange do final results show?
Most patients see their initial results clearly within 4–6 weeks as swelling resolves. Final results, including full settling of the implants into their natural position, are typically visible at 3 to 6 months post-op.
What are Motiva implants?
Motiva implants are a premium implant option known for their advanced silicone technology, natural feel, and low complication rates. They are designed to move and respond more naturally with the body compared to traditional implants.
What is recovery like after an implant exchange with capsulectomy?
Most patients return to light daily activity within 1–2 weeks. Strenuous activity and heavy lifting are typically restricted for 4–6 weeks. Because a capsulectomy adds a step to the procedure, some patients experience a slightly more involved recovery than a standard exchange alone.
