Before & After

A 43-year-old female patient sought to restore breast volume and improve breast shape after experiencing changes over time. Following a personalized consultation with Dr. Crantford at Crantford Costa Plastic Surgery in Charleston, South Carolina, she underwent breast augmentation combined with a breast lift. To achieve a balanced, natural-looking result while correcting pre-existing asymmetry, Motiva RSD implants were selected, with a 360cc implant placed in the right breast and a 320cc implant placed in the left breast. Photos are shown at 3 months post-op.

Combining breast augmentation with a lift allows patients whose breasts have lost volume and elevation to address both concerns in a single procedure, restoring fullness with an implant while repositioning the breast and nipple to a more youthful location on the chest. Dr. Crantford tailored implant size to each side individually to correct asymmetry while achieving proportional, natural-looking results. At 3 months post-op, this patient’s results show enhanced fullness, improved projection, and a lifted contour with proportional symmetry maintained between both breasts.

How do I know if I need a breast lift, an augmentation, or both?

Patients who have lost breast volume but whose breasts still sit in a relatively good position on the chest may only need an augmentation. Patients whose nipple position has dropped below the breast crease, or whose breasts appear deflated and lower on the chest, typically benefit from adding a lift so the implant sits within a well-supported, elevated breast shape.

Can breast augmentation with a lift correct asymmetry?

Yes. As shown in this case, selecting different implant sizes for each side allows Dr. Crantford to correct natural volume differences between breasts while still achieving a balanced, symmetrical final result.

What can I expect for recovery after combining augmentation with a lift?

Recovery from combined augmentation and lift is generally longer than augmentation alone, with most patients taking 1 to 2 weeks off work and avoiding strenuous activity for about 6 weeks. Final results, including scar maturation and full settling of the implants, continue to improve over several months.
